Come out, Summer! You don´t have to hide anymore!

As today is the last day of February and winter is soon over- well I hope so- I am already dreaming of sun, warm temperatures and the sea.
In my opinion,  temperatures could rise  to 25- 30 degrees Celsius immediately and stay at this point!

To overcome the last cold days I got a nice prescription for everyone who is pining for warm rays of sunshine: 70s and 60s hippie music! :)

Listen to bands as Jefferson Airplane, Mammas& Pappas, Fleetwood Mac, The Doors, Simon & Garfunkel, Janis Joplin,Crosby, Stills & Nash, The Grateful Dead, The Beatles (Magical Mystery Tour),Canned Heat and Jimi Hendrix at least once a day. Close your eyes while listening and dream away for some minutes. The best thing against depression and bad mood! ;) Peace& Love!

Some impressions of Woodstock attended by "Going up the Country" by Canned Heat!

Pssst..Listen!

Today I´ll tell you a secret!
Everytime I  write a post, I m listening to the music of the band I wanna write about! Now it´s revealed!

I am listening to The Smiths...so what does this say?
Right!
I´ll be writing about The Smiths in the next few sentences!

Well this band captured me in the last years...and I must confess I´ve  heard from them only 2 years ago...that´s sad, yes! But from this moment on I have been listening to them constantly.
I´m at all very into 80s bands at the moment. Starting with The Smiths, ending with New Order.
I don´t know but they have this coolness in their music. Not coolness how you would describe a nice pair of boots; No! It´s the clear sound that makes it!

Now back to Morrissey and his band! In my opinion they were the very first REAL indie band and nowadays a lot of bands are imitating their style. I don´t find this  bad! It´s kinda honouring The Smiths and their liability.
I love their sentimental but simple songs and Morrissey´s voice (especially when he does this belcanto thing). Walking down the street and listening to them on my ipod makes me feel like I am in an 80s movie..and I must admit that I would enjoy that!

Hello, I love you...

...Jim Morisson! It´s no secret that I´m admiring the front-singer of The Doors! He was and will always be the greatest songwirter for me! The lyrics of songs like Crystal Ship, Love Street, People are strange and The celebration of the lizard  are like poetry and Jim Morisson was a poet! Maybe one of America´s greatest!
Well, I would definitely let you sleep all night in my soul kitchen, Jim! ;)

HEY!

If a band was Kurt Cobain´s favourite  and inspired him to write Smells like Teen Spirit this band must be extremely fantastic and this band is called: Pixies
Founded in 1985 in Boston (so some time before Nirvana) they were kind of a cornerstone for the indie-grunge bands which were following afterwards. After a break of about 12 years they have been  touring again since 2004. Their first concert after this break was sold-out even though there was no new album since 1991. Their 2004 album Wave of Mutilation is already a classic in my opinion and is played up and down on my ipod. Their coolness and way of starting a song slow and calm and then bringing it up to the top is amazing. I must even say, I sometimes  prefer them instead of Nirvana. Sorry Kurt!

The coolest girl in town!

Who knows the english band The Kills also knows Alison Mosshart and her stunning sombre voice beside Jamie Hince.
In my opinion Alison belongs to the coolest girls in music scene and is a fashion icon too with her rock - and careless-chic and her black out-of-bed hair which I´m trying to imitate- mostly unsuccessfully.
But just let the pictures speak...

Back to the roots

Although my music taste is actually more tending to the underground part of town I sometimes prefer the friendly cornfields outside and so I listen to Folk such as Mumford&Sons.
Recently I downloaded their new album Babel, which is as good as Sigh no more, and still sounds after campfires with marshmallows and guitar music in the nature of North America. No wonder that the London based band has a great fan community in the USA.

Another artist who does a similiar kind of music that also reminds us of our roots and who I really adore is Robert Francis. His debute album Before Nightfall is a masterpiece of music. All songs came to his mind while driving down the West Coast of North America from Seattle to L.A.. The melodies and lyrics came up his mind while driving in the silence surrounded by great nature. This September he released his new album Strangers in the first place. Its songs again prove that Robert Francis always plays and sings with the power from the bottom of his heart and you hear it in every verse that he really packs his own emotions in the lyrics and melodies.
